Troubleshooting Your SUMMIT Appliance
| Problem | Things to do | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Not cooling/Not running | Check power cord plugged into wall | |
| Check circuit breaker or fuse in electrical panel | ||
| Make sure thermostat is not on zero | ||
| Check GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) is not tripped on outdoor units. If tripped, press reset button on GFCI before turining on unit | GFCI will trip in the event of a power failure, shutdown, or thunderstorm | |
| Food temperature too warm | Check gaskets for proper seal. If new allow 48 hours to adjust. Some models may be in defrost mode upon arrival | Frequent door openings result in warm air coming into refrigerator |
| Adjust temperature control to colder setting | ||
| Make sure the interior light is going off when doors are closed | ||
| Make sure that both the freezer and refrigerator ½ to ¾ full | ||
| Water not draining/Water on bottom of interior of refrigerator | Check for obstruction in drain trough inside on back wall | |
| Check tubing in rear of unit for obstruction | Pour hot water into the drain trough to see if it will clear | |
| Door not sealing | Check for food obstructing door closure | |
| Check door gaskets | ||
| Check for alignment of door hinges | ||
| Leaking | Check to make sure the drain pan is in place and not cracked or broken | "Drain pan is in rear of unit, usually above compressor" |
| Adjust leveling legs in the front for enough front to back angle | ||
| Make sure the rear tubing is tight and not cracked | ||
| Condensation (moisture on door or cabinet) | Ensure door is closing properly | This is normal during high humidity periods |
| Prolonged or frequent door openings | ||
| Noisy | The following sounds are normal and indicate your refrigerator is operating properly: 1. Temperature control 2. Evaporator 3. Evaporator fan motor 4. Compressor 5. Defrost Heater 6. Defrost Drain Pan 7. Defrost Timer | "Beginning July 2001, new energy standards went into effect for all refrigerators, regardless of manufacturer. Therefore, the operation of your new Summit refrigerator may be different or unfamiliar than your old appliance." "Today's foam insulation is very energy efficient and has excellent insulating capabilities. However, foam insulation is not as sound absorbent as previously used fiberglass insulation." "New energy efficient high speed compressors are smaller and have higher pitched sounds than older, larger low speed compressors." |
| Running all the time | Check the base grill to make sure air flow isn't blocked | |
| Check your room temperature | "In a warm room, your refrigerator will need to run more often in order to stay cold enough." | |
| Light not working | Check to make sure the bulb isn't burned out | Unplug the refrigerator before changing the bulb. |
| Make sure the refrigerator is plugged into a live electrical outlet | ||
| Not level | Unscrew the leveling legs until they contact the floor | |
| Styrofoam in my refrigerator | Do not remove foam insulation from the vents. | |
| You should remove only the Styrofoam that is easily accessible and obviously used to protect the refrigerator during shipment. | ||
| Checking temperature | Place thermometer in a liquid in the fresh food section. | You can use any liquid; just ensure the liquid has enough time to adjust to the same temperature as the fresh food section. |
| Measuring air temperature will cause inaccurate readings and lead to higher energy consumption. | "Air thermometers measure air temperature, which rapidly adjusts to room temperature when door is opened." |
